Christ Church Music Free lunchtime concerts
2026 Programme
On the last Wednesday of each month, we host young emerging soloists and ensembles from many of the UK’s leading conservatoires to present free lunchtime concerts for the local community, with refreshments provided.
Wednesday 24th June – 1pm
Dancing with Brahms
Award-winning cellist Aleksandra Pykacz and pianist Joanna Kacperek place Brahms’ magnificent Sonata in E minor at the heart of their recital. Inspired by the sonata’s graceful Menuet, the programme unfolds into a vibrant sequence of dances—from Brahms and Beethoven to Piazzolla and Villa-Lobos—exploring a rich spectrum of rhythm, colour, and virtuosity.

Wednesday 29th July – 1pm
The Great Bear Ensemble
Violinists Francine Maas & Matthew Millkey, and organist Kiele Sacco, present a programme that brings together contrasting national styles, from the virtuosic and improvisatory Italian sonata to the more dance-driven and characterful German-speaking repertoire.

Wednesday 26th August – 1pm
Duo Tânwen
Flutist Ruby Howells and harpist Bonnie Scott, who have known each other since early childhood, have a particular passion for performing works by female, underrepresented, and global majority composers. They also enjoy programming music by Welsh composers, in honour of their joint Welsh heritage — and this connection was key in choosing their ensemble name.

Wednesday 30th September – 1pm
Matilde Freiria
International guitar soloist Matilde Freiria presents an eclectic programme of Latin and Baroque music, from Couperin and Scarlatti, to Coste, Rodrigo, Rudnev and Marchelie.

Wednesday 28th October – 1pm
Hyde Quartet
Formed in 2020, the Hyde Quartet is a dynamic ensemble of Royal College of Music students and alumni. Since their debut, the clarinet quartet has gained recognition as winners of the Tunnell Trust Award, the RCM Ensemble Competition, and the Boconnoc Award, as well as finalists in the Royal Overseas League competition.
